How to Enjoy Delicious Food and Still Remain Healthy (Part 2)

Oct 08, 2007 @ 09:21 pm by Healthy Me

Last time, we discovered the merits of self detoxification and choosing other options for healthy and flavorful meals. Let’s continue with other great tips.

Avoid Processed Food

If you really cannot avoid meat then choose the better kinds of meat. Processed meat including canned meat and repackaged meat usually lose much of their protein and nutrient content because of processing methods. Other packaged meats are also made of lower quality meat. Always choose fresh lean meat over processed meat. This rule should be followed for all other food items.

Drink Red Wine in Moderation

Researchers and ordinary people have often wondered why the French do not suffer as much as other westerners from cardiac diseases when their daily diet is known to be rich and fattening. Theoretically, the answer may be because they are also lovers of red wine. Red wine has antioxidant properties that help prevent blood vessel clogging by fat deposits. Having a glass of red wine to complement your rich meal may be a healthy practice.

Improve Cooking and Preparation Methods

You can have a healthier meal of lean meat if you broiled or grilled your meat instead of frying it. Meats cooked this way are lower in fat and come out as more visually appealing. If you really want to fry some meat, remove the fat before doing so and use a dripping rack to eliminate excess oil from fried meat.

How to Enjoy Delicious Food and Still Remain Healthy (Part 1)

Oct 07, 2007 @ 09:29 am by Healthy Me

It is a common belief that healthy food means the same as tasteless or bad taste. Modern culinary discoveries and guidelines however are now making it possible for anyone to enjoy delicious and tasty dishes and still remain healthy and fit. The following are some helpful tips.

Self Detoxification

Detoxification is usually a special process that will require you to ask for expert help. You can however practice and set a schedule for your own self detoxification. If you are a meat eater, set a few days in a week for you to be a vegetarian. Another alternative would be to cook your daily dishes with a mixture of lean meat pieces and vegetables. On the days that you are eating meat, make sure that you have side dishes or desert that contains vegetables and unsweetened fruits.

It will also help if you tried to discover different natural spices and herbs to enhance the taste of your food. Instead of using store bought sauces for your meat and fish, experiment with tasty and flavorful herbs and spices like parsley, cloves, rosemary and thyme.

Water is also an essential part of self detoxification. Drink as many glasses of water as you can everyday to help flush out harmful toxins from your body and to replenish your system with lost nutrients.

Choose Other Options

You can still have tasty food in other less fattening forms. Instead of eating bread made of refined flour for example, you should choose whole wheat bread instead. If you are a pasta lover, choose pasta that is made of whole meal and top it off natural tomato sauce mixed with bits of tuna instead of pork meat. Sweet smoothies can also be made more nutritious by blending fresh fruits and using natural sweeteners like fresh apple juice or pure honey.

Fish and vegetables are healthier to eat if steamed or broiled. Improve the taste of dishes like these by mixing healthy sauces made of soy and sesame oil. If you really want to fry some of your foods, avoid oils made of pork or animal oil. Use healthy oils instead like grapeseed oil, canola oil and olive oil.

What other options do we have for healthy, tasty eating?

Aphrodisiac Powers in Common Foods (Part 2)

Oct 06, 2007 @ 11:08 am by Healthy Me

We’ve only just begun with exploring the aphrodisiac qualities of some common foods in our previous article. This time we explore other common aphrodisiac foods.

Chocolate

This is probably everyone’s favorite sweet treat in modern times but in the time of the Aztecs, it was a known aphrodisiac even in its bitter form. It is not only its smooth suggestive texture that makes it sexually enticing. Chocolate contains phenylethylamine and caffeine which promotes the release of chemicals in the brain which bring about a sense of well being. Recent studies also show that chocolate contains antioxidants that can promote general health.

Garlic

Garlic has been known for centuries to be a helpful treatment for cold, asthma and even heart ailments. It can greatly enhance the taste of food as a common part of almost any recipe. Its smell especially when cooked in oil can effectively arouse the senses and even cause an erection in some men. Garlic also has antioxidants. Diallyl sulfides in particular help promote proper blood circulation.

Honey

No wonder “honeymoon” is called as such because honey itself is an ancient aphrodisiac. The ancient Egyptians, Vikings and Persians all used honey in different ways related to sex and romance. Honey can also increase polyphenolic antioxidants in the blood that fight free radicals and promote general health. Even without its health benefits however, the sweet taste and spreadable qualities of honey are already sexual tools in the hands of a creative lover.

Discover Aphrodisiac Powers in Common Foods (Part 1)

Oct 05, 2007 @ 05:50 am by Healthy Me

Aphrodisiacs have long been regarded as the secret to sexual appetite and stamina. These kinds of food however need not be complicated gourmet dishes. You might not know that some of the common foods in your pantry might actually be powerful aphrodisiacs. Let’s take a look at some of these common foods.

Asparagus

This stalk was once a popular aphrodisiac simply because of its shape. It has since become a well known edible phallic symbol. Studies show however that asparagus stalks are also actually rich in Vitamin E which can stimulate sex hormones. Vitamin E is also a known antioxidant that can help make your skin smooth and healthy. Asparagus stalks are served best steamed or boiled. Some believe that the asparagus will give better results when eaten for three days straight.

Avocado

This fruit is also symbolic because of its appearance. It was once named “testicle tree” by the Aztecs because its fruits hang in pairs. When cut open, the avocado also resembles the female genitalia. It draws its reputation as an aphrodisiac however from its sensuously creamy texture. Avocados are rich sources of potassium which is known to prevent fatigue and Vitamins K and C which are good for the skin.

Oysters

These mollusks which resemble the female genitals have been popular aphrodisiacs since the time of the ancient Romans. Oysters however are best remembered as aphrodisiacs because the great 16th century womanizer Casanova, who seduced more than 120 women, was known to feast on oysters nearly every day. Oysters are really high in zinc which promotes better production of testosterone. The salty scent and taste is also similar to the pheromones of women.

What else can you find in the kitchen to heighten sexual endurance and libido?

More on Homeopathy

Aug 01, 2007 @ 12:49 pm by Healthy Me

Homeopathy and detoxification as previously discussed, are not the only ways to promote natural health and immunity. You can keep yourself healthy by taking note of these simple tips.

Maintaining Activity Balance

Proper blood circulation is one of the keys to good health. The blood is where oxygen is transported to the cells of the body. One can keep a good blood flow through regular exercise. Physical activity is also a good way to prevent muscle degeneration as a result of lack of use. It is therefore important to adopt a regular exercise regimen like running and swimming. Activities like these can help you both improve your blood flow and use body oxygen effectively.

It is important to note however that one must not pursue an exercise regimen obsessively to the point of exhaustion. This is also true for your other activities which include work regardless of whether it is mental or physical work. Take the time to relax and get enough sleep.

Nutrition

How often do we have to stress that it is crucial that we maintain a balanced diet? You can naturally prevent yourself from getting excess fat by keeping away from fatty and processed foods. Load up on energy giving carbohydrates by eating wheat based bread and pasta. Make unprocessed fruits and vegetables a major part of your diet. These are natural sources of antioxidants, phytochemicals and detoxifiers. A load of fresh fiber and other minerals and vitamins may be all you need to flush out your body toxins and keep your immune system in top shape.

Using Nature for a Healthier You

Jul 28, 2007 @ 11:58 pm by Healthy Me

Much attention is now being given to maintaining proper health. Some people do not just want to keep healthy; they also want to appear slimmer and better toned. This has led to excessive dieting and rigorous training programs. In reality though, we need not excessively turn to such solutions. Our bodies have natural ways and means to keep us healthy, fit and strong.

Internal Detoxification

The body has the kidneys, liver and the intestine to naturally remove all body wastes and toxins that may have been ingested through food, water and exposure to the environment. In some cases however, the level of body toxins is in such an advanced level that it is nearly impossible for our organs to function properly. In some cases, the organs may malfunction.

Instead of completely staying away from food, one can opt to undergo a detoxifying diet. This diet is not the same as normal dieting in which one has to completely shun food. A detox diet simply modifies the diet to eliminate body toxins. Depending on your needs and the recommendation of an expert, you can detoxify through juice fasting; not eating fatty foods; taking in herbs and eating more fruits, vegetables and fish.

Homeopathy

We usually drink medicine when we have a headache, a bout of diarrhea or a vomiting spell. Logic would say however that these are merely symptoms of whatever our bodies are suffering from. On another angle, this may also be seen as the body’s natural reaction and way of coping with an illness or infection. In other words, drinking conventional medicine is only a way of stopping the symptoms.

Homeopathy functions under the idea of stimulating the body’s natural healing mechanism. It involves administering small doses of all natural substances that will mimic symptoms of illness and therefore the body’s natural healing reaction to illness.

Detoxification and homeopathy are natural methods that can keep us fit and healthy. They are however, procedures that require expert assistance. There are other easier more personal ways to keep us healthy.

Nicotine Dependence: Getting Rid Of It

Jul 18, 2007 @ 02:04 pm by Healthy Me

Nicotine is not a substance that you will find only in cigarettes, even though the substance is predominantly present in tobacco.  Nicotine can also be found in food products such as tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants, and green peppers.  In fact, it isn’t the nicotine that is dangerous to your health.  It’s the large amounts of nicotine that can be put through our body (such as through smoking) that can be quite lethal.

The Nicotine Patch
You have probably heard that the only way to get rid of nicotine dependence is to fight it by giving your body controlled amounts of nicotine over a period of time.  This is what nicotine patches are for.  The patches allow your body to absorb low amounts of nicotine so that you can stop the habit of smoking.  But even in this case, there have been people who then redirect their nicotine dependence towards the patches themselves.  So what happens is that the habit is directed to another object, i.e. the patches.

What nicotine does
Nicotine actually works by helping to alter one’s moods.  Often, you will hear smokers tell you that their habit helps them to relax and it takes away stress.  This is one of the effects of nicotine when it enters their systems.  This happens when it causes stimulation by causing the release of glucose from the liver and adrenaline from the liver.  This results in people feeling calm and alert.  The taste of tobacco (also rich with nicotine) also helps to curb people’s appetites.  For those who do not smoke anymore and still crave nicotine effects, there are also nicotine gums that have dosages of about 2 to 4 mg.  However, even if the effects are different, the point is that nicotine dependence is still present and this is not a good mental state because a habit still exists.

Poison
What most people do not know about nicotine is that it can be classified as an extremely dangerous poison.  40-60 mg can be a lethal dosage for adult humans.  Nicotine is even more toxic than alkaloids like cocaine.  Nicotine is not known to directly influence the development of cancer.  However, through other processes in the body, the nicotine helps impede apoptosis, one of the methods that help the body to destroy unwanted cells.  Since apoptosis removes mutated cells and nicotine helps stop that process, this indirectly can create an environment wherein cancer can develop.

Nicotine dependence is something that people can do away with.  A proper alternative must be found first.  There are a few substitutes out there that can actually help one to stop depending on nicotine for quick fixes of relaxation.  One of these solutions comes in the form of a patch but its not quite a nicotine patch.  Known as Nicocure, the patch helps one to not crave nicotine anymore.  It is made with all natural materials and can even eliminate side effects that are caused by nicotine intake like insomnia, tension, irritability, etc.  Nicocure is one of the few all-natural solutions that can help battle nicotine dependence and encourage a healthier lifestyle.

Does Tricking the Brain Help You Lose Weight?

Jul 15, 2007 @ 11:16 am by Healthy Me

Hoodia Balance is one of the many hoodia gordonii weight loss pills that are available on the market today. It is also one of the many weight loss products that aim to lose weight through fooling-the-brain way. And how it can do just that is what this article is going to discuss.

Hoodia is a cactus-like plant that grows in the Kalahari Desert. It has been used for many centuries by the Kalahari inhabitants to curb their hunger and thirst. Hoodia is also one of the most sought-after herbs today due to its weight loss properties. It has been proven to have the capability of suppressing hunger pangs without negative side effects, which explains the weight loss industry’s current addiction to the herb.

So, how does tricking the mind help you become successful in your weight loss plans?

One of hoodia’s most essential components is steroidal glycosides, which when consumed, produces certain effects on the brain. These glycosides cause the brain to display a behavior similar to the effect of an increase in the amount of sugar in the bloodstream. When the hypothalamus believes the blood sugar supply is high, it conveys a message to the body that nourishment is no longer needed.

Hoodia Balance is derived from this same cactus extract. And the weight loss pill works exactly the same way that hoodia does, which is conveying feelings of fullness to the brain. The hoodia gordonii natural appetite inhibitor found in hoodia herbs is what gives the sensation of fullness. It deceives the brain into thinking that there is already enough caloric intake. As a result, hunger is inhibited.

This is what causes you to eat less food. And taking in less food eventually leads to weight loss in the product’s users. Weight loss with the aid of Hoodia Balance is also accompanied by an increase in your metabolism, which means you get to burn your fats faster and there will be less fat stored in your body.

As to the effectiveness of Hoodia Balance, users have reported that their caloric intake was significantly reduced by up to 1000 calories a day. Translated into pounds, this amounts to 4-6 pounds a week. Users of Hoodia Balance also report that aside from being able to curb their appetite, they also do not experience usual symptoms like queasy stomach, racing heart, and funny taste in the mouth.

It is recommended that those who want to go on a weight loss routine should couple their Hoodia Balance intake with a healthy and well-balanced diet. If you are like some people, the number of pounds you lose when taking Hoodia Balance is entirely dependent on the diet you have and the frequency of your exercises. If you have healthy meals and regular exercise, you should see significant weight loss without the side effects.

The positive effects of Hoodia Balance are usually noticed within 14 days, as with other hoodia products. Though there are some people who report appetite suppression within the first few days of Hoodia Balance intake, there are others who take more time to build up the herb’s active ingredients.
